Signs You Might Be a Libertarian

Well, its been a wild month, but the Great
Libertarian Dispute of 3/05 is finally over. Alas, there were no victors, and
some casualties. In my post-mortem, I summarized (slightly
tongue-in-cheek) what I learned about Libertarianism in a Top 10 list. It may
not be intellectually rigorous, and the Libertarians on Centroids would maybe
self-identify with only half, but I at least found it
entertaining.

Top 10 Signs You
Might Be a Libertarian

(with apologies to
both Jeff Foxworthy & Eric
Cowperthwaite
)

10. You
identify the term ‘Government’ with all that is bad about
Politics,

    rather than
anything that is good about
Leadership

9.  You consider the
Market innocent until proven
guilty,

    but the
Government guilty until proven
innocent

8.  You trust people who
are only looking out for
themselves,

    but not those
(who claim to be) looking out for
you

7.  You are a person of great
moral courage and personal
integrity,

    but think
it silly to expect that of
others

6.  You view Evil as
intrinsic to societal
decision-making,

    but
accidental when it comes from
individuals

5.  You believe the
adjective ‘rational’ turns things widely considered
evil

    (e.g., anarchy,
egoism, self-interest) into indisputable
goods.

4.  You take great offense
at being told your noble actions were
altruistic

3.  You have to
rationalize your virtues, rather than your
vices

2.  You think radical
centrists are neither ‘radical’ nor
‘centrist’

1.  You take great
pride in being rational,

without realizing such pride is irrational
