Centroids Rules of
Engagement
(with apologies to Gouverneur
Morris)
Version 1.0, July 20th,
20004
Preamble:
We
the members, in order to:
* form a more
humane mailing list
* establish
constructive dialogue
* ensure everyone
is treated with respect
* provide for
appropriate intervention
* promote
general fun
* secure the blessings of a
healthy community, for ourselves and for
newcomers
do ordain and establish the following
rules of
engagement.
1. Keep it
Fun
This list should be fun, even
(especially!) when dealing with very serious issues. Its fine to disagree —
even strongly — but never be abusive, crude or
inflammatory
2. Stay
Focused
Respect the charter. Trim replies.
Preserve context. Edit yourself. Avoid diarrhea of the
inbox.
3. Share
Yourself
Explain your background. State
your perspective. Link in background
info.
4. Act
Humble
If you’re not, pretend. The goal is
to help people understand us, not convince them we’re
right.
5.
Behave
Violations are punishable by
Probation (moderated posting), Parole, or Expulsion, at the moderator’s sole
discretion, including any penance deemed necessary.
