Dear Centroids,

While these email exchanges are no doubt immensely entertaining for
some of you, I keep getting the question:

	When are you actually going to *do* something?

Answer: Phase III officially commenced on Friday, June 18th, 2004

What, you may ask, is Phase III? Ah, therein lies a tale.

Archimedes once said 'If you give me a lever and a place to stand, I
can move the world.' Apart from the minor matter of a fulcrum, this
seems a sound strategy for rebuilding the foundations of Western
Civilization.  To wit:

Phase 1: A Place to Stand - Pontification - The Manifesto

It began on March 25th, 2002, when I decided to formally launch my
investigation into economics (first conceived in Phase 0, when I was
applying to BCG in March of 1995). It more or less matured around
July 4th, 2002, when I conceived the concept of a Radical Centrist
manifesto, though it didn't take final form until that fall.

During Phase I, I wondered whether I was trying to start a movement, or
be part of an existing one.

Phase II: A Lever - Interaction - The Website & Centroids

Phase II occurred when I launched RadicalCentrism.org around April 15,
2003, After playing around with the term Radical Centrist for a few
months, I suddenly realized I should google to see if the term was
already in use. Discovering that it was, I hurriedly purchased the
domain RadicalCentrism.org before someone else did. This became my
primary venue for communication, though in some ways it only matured
this spring when I (re)launched the Centroids mailing list.

During Phase II, I had accepted that I was going to join, rather than
create, a movement, so I was focusing on which movements to ally myself
with.

Phase III: A Fulcrum - Incarnation -- Alliances

Last Friday, I received two emails. One was from the publicist for
Mark Satin's Radical Middle books
<http://www.radicalmiddle.com/publicity.htm>, who is sending me 10
copies to help get Mark onto local media outlets
<http://radicalcentrism.org/satin_booktour.html>.  This is my first
serious attempt to influence politics, and my first concrete challenge.
  I will either succeed or fail, but at least I have an objective
criteria to determine which.

The other was from Milan Telian, an ex-rocket scientist who's the
right-hand man for Luis Bush, one of the premier Christian leaders in
the world today (perhaps best known for chairing the AD2000 movement
for World Evangelization <http://www.ad2000.org/staff/luis.htm>).  I
had met Milan at breakfast the day before, and he encouraged me to send
my ideas on Transformation
<http://radicalcentrism.org/resources/rc-transformation.pdf> to Dr.
Bush. He might like them and respond, or he might not. Either way, I
have a concrete challenge, and an objective criteria for measuring
success or failure.

Thus begins my attempt to apply my version of Radical Centrism to two
movements that are working to reform their respective institutions:

* State - Government - Radical Middle
* Church - Religion - Transformationalism

I figure there's probably a total of six institutions that need to be
revitalized, the other four being:

* Market - Business
* School - Education
* Family - Relationships
* Media - Journalism/Entertainment (not as sure about this one)

Like with the first two, the goal is to identify nascent movements with
compatible goals, establish credibility with the key leaders, and
eventually inject my ideas into the evolving dialogue.

This is where I seek external validation, to test whether my ideas hold
water and actually offer value to those in positions of power.
Whether I succeed or fail, I'll get new data, and that's still my
primary concern.

Phase IV - Pulling the Lever - Maturation - Movements

Assuming that somebody actually likes my ideas, the next phase is to
create/discover a role for myself in each of those movements, and find
ways that my ideas can materially benefit those movements. In a sense,
I might go back to being a form of management consultant.

Phase V - Moving the Earth - Unification - Society

This -- perhaps a decade or three from now -- is where I'd tie all
these movements back together into a single unified paradigm, ushering
in a new golden age of global culture. Which would probably last less
than a century before we blow ourselves up, or Christ returns, or
something like that. But it would be fun while it lasted.

Anyway, that's the plan, and where I think we're at. Yeah, its a
little ambitious, but even if I only make a small dent in the larger
problem, I'll be able to do some good for those I love. So I will be
happy. Assuming someone appreciates it. :-)

Let me know what you think.
